Baby Dog Glamour Shoot

Many people will say never work with kids or animals and they say that because no matter how much you plan and organise you can never tell what images your going to get. Well we had a shoot with little Torito, the new face for Baby Dog. A new business offering small dog wears.

The shoot was challenging but also so much fun. We setup a mobile studio and placed roses everywhere, cracked open the cheese and crackers and had a load of fun.

What do you get when you cross a beautiful young woman with some fantastic street art?

You get images like this !!!!!!

Brooke was a first time model but you would not have picked it. The shoot started out light and casual, well as light and casual as you could get with a model dressed the way she was. When the sunlight started to die we broke out the strobes and used several different lighting setups. The team on location was great with Rob, Erin and Jamie helping out. I have been wanting to shoot this location for a while and was just waiting for the right model and was lucky enough to meet up with Brooke.

I had a ball shooting this session and look forward to using this location again. Big well done goes to Brooke, who has a great look and I think we got some amazing images.

Perfect Strangers

Ever wanted to take a photo of something cool or interesting. I do all the time but it's mainly of people I see walking down the street.

Well while I was walking down the beach recently, I noticed these 2 strangers and so asked if I could take a portrait of them.

Facebook Friend Promotion

GlossyFX wants to make more friends and we want to reward our current friends. So the next natural step was to combine the two ideas. "Portrait Diary" Released

A little while ago when I was trying to get through a dark time, it was suggested to me that perhaps putting my thoughts down on paper would help. Well I wasn't a fan of the idea as I am an image creator and not a book writer, but I came up with a compromise. An image diary, where I would put down my thoughts and ideas about some of the images I have captured.

While looking through my hard drive for some images it dawned on me that in each portrait session I actually learned something, so why not use that as the basis of the diary. When I got to page 20 I figured I would bind them all together and print it off. Sometimes reading things on the screen just doesn't cut it. My printer just do th images justice, so I made a little coffee table book.

I have just received the little coffee table book of diary entries and I thought some people might like to see what it's all about, so I have decided to release it all who would want to read it. You can view it online HERE . I have also created a PDF version which you can download for free and view it and pass it along to anyone you think would like to read it.

Portrait Shoot - Jaimee, Joe & Elijah

The pitter patter of little feet has filled the household of Jaimee and Joe as their little boy Elijah joins us. We had a maternity shoot with Jaimee and Joe not that long ago and got some great images. For this shoot we wanted to get something similiar so they could match the images up when they hung them on the walls.

We had a great time with them. The little lad wasn't real happy for the most part but that is how young boys are sometimes. 8-)

It was State-of-Origin night and my team won as well, so it was a great night all around.

Melissa Archer is the principle member at Archer Business Consulting. She was after a business head shot for her website etc. We got some good images and had a fun time. I also convinced her to try a few non-standard poses and styles.

GlossyFX Gets a Great Wrap

GlossyFX Lead photographer and owner, Doug Hall had a sit down at a local cafe recently and talked with Lindy Asimus. Lindy is a Business Coach and Editor for the local community blog "Newcastle Pulse".

The coffee was good and the conversation was like a meeting of the minds and ideas about how photography and business were discussed. Lindy has published an article on our meeting and can be read here. There are some great stories and articles on the blog and we encourage you not only to have a read of the GlossyFX article but also the other great content.

Working Partnership with Hunter Region School of Photography

We are very happy to announce that GlossyFX and one of the regions premium photography schools, The Hunter Region School of Photography (HRSOP), will now be working in a close business relationship.

Now what does this really mean? Well in the short term it means that GlossyFX Lead Photographer, Doug Hall, will be lecturing at HRSOP. This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about photography and also be able to ask Doug about his experiences and ideas.

In the medium and long term this business relationship will develop some very exciting opportunities for both clients of GlossyFX and for the students of HRSOP. With big plans on the drawing board for both businesses and the wealth of experience and support, we can only create great things in our future endeavours.

This announcement is a result of months of discussions and is only the first stepping stone, so keep your eyes peeled for exciting announcements in the future. It is a very exciting time for both businesses.

GlossyFX Print Sales

As part of the new update to the GlossyFX website, a Print Sales area has been created. This displays the images that are being sold to the general public. Each of these excellent quality images would make a great addition to any wall at home, a workplace or as a gift.

Website Update

A change is as good as a holiday they say, and seeing I am stuck behind a computer desk most of the day at the moment (I have had knee surgery if you didn't know), I have decided to update the areas of the site which I think needed improving. The changes make the site cleaner, simpler and adds more content.

New GlossyFX Photobooks

After a long and hair pulling search we have chosen the new photobooks we will be using. They are an excellent quality and look amazing. We are preparing the sample books now and hope to get them soon.

• Fuji Crystal Archival paper.
• Leather or Material finish.

Wedding Package Update

2010 is well upon us and and after a long selection process we have chossen our new wedding photobook's and premium wedding album's we will now be using. The plan now is to get sample books made up, as everyone, including us finds it so much eaiser to make a decision when you can touch and feel an example. We will be putting up some images soon and a full description of the new books and all their details.

The new pricing guide has been put up on the site. We realise that a single shoe doesn't fit every foot and we use this guide as a starting point to ensure that the wedding details you need can be arranged.

Model Shoot - Barnard Family

This shoot was done on the 14Feb2010 and as I was layed up with my busted leg, the photo's were taken by Cory Small. From the stories I heard everyone had a great time and by the photo's I can see that as well. Babies are so cute, even when they are crying and grizzly. But I am glad I can hand them back to their mum when they get that way 8-).

Professional Association - AIPP

I have been accepted as an Emerging Member with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) . If this doesnt mean anything to you then thats all good. I truely believe a photographer should be judged by their work and not by their professional status or qualifications. Why did I apply then, you say? I strive to continually better myself and my work and this association, I believe, will help me do that. It will help me with my business model and also get feedback on my work from other photographers from around the country. I look forward to striving forward.

Model Shoot - Heba

This shoot was done on the 18Jan2010 but I went into hospital for knee surgery soon after that and wasnt able to complete the processing until now as I now can get behind the computer and get some images processed.

This shoot was of Heba in her traditional dress. Also we got some shots of her and her husband. It was a relaxed shoot and we all had a great time.

First official shoot of the year and is was a great one. A young lady with a great look and even though she hasn't much modeling experience she did a great job. We had a basic mobile studio setup with a black background, all so we could give the focus to the model.

2009 - A Wrap Up

At some point in time you have to wonder how your life has got to the point where it is today. I often wonder that point, more so this year than I would have thought. It has been a big year for me, as I took the plunge into the unknown darkness of fulltime self employment. I can no longer blame the system that controls me as I know create that system. Saying that though I no longer want too and that is a very releaving feeling. I am smiling more everyday and that chip that was on my shoulder has been missing for a while. I had the thought a while ago that I wanted to change my life. I wanted to enjoy life. Well now I do. I wake up in the mornings chomping at the bit to do more photography and from time to time I allow myself a smile as I think to myself that I am now my own boss doing what I love to do. 2009 has seen me shoot weddings, events, families, friends, lovers, products.... ohhh the list goes on and on. And I have enjoyed them all. 8-)

To all the great people that I have met throughout the year I thank you for helping me enjoy life, through photography.

I know it may sound cliche but my thanks and love goes to my partner Erin. She has inspired, supported and at times put up with me, through a year of change. I would never be the person I am without her.

Toy Run 2009 Canberra

What a great morning!!! Over a thousand motorbikes with owners who have dressed up themselves and their machines, in the Christmas spirit. They were gathered to bring toys to children who would have normally missed out. What a great charity event. GlossyFX is selling images online and is donating 10% of all profits back to the charity.

Xfacta Concert 2009

The Xfacta School of Talent had their end of year concert and it was an amazing show that showed off the talents of the students. GlossyFX was able to setup a onsite studio during a dress rehersal and we got some photo's of the great outfits of the students.

New Website Released

Well there have had several mind flashes about this new layout. One of the designs was a very complex, animation filled site, but when it came back to it, its the images that tell the story and have the impact. With this in mind we went back to the KISS principle and used a simple layout.
